Confidence and success often go hand in hand, but where does confidence come from? One of the most powerful ways to build confidence is through healthy habits. These habits improve your well-being and reinforce your belief in your ability to achieve your goals. When your habits align with your values and your vision for yourself, they become even more impactful. Overcoming obstacles and finding solutions along the way makes you stronger and more self-assured.
Here’s how to create healthy habits that set you up for success and increase your confidence:
Understand the Power of Habits
Habits are powerful because they shape our daily routines and, ultimately, our lives. The small, consistent actions you take each day—whether it’s exercising, reading, or focusing on personal development—build momentum toward long-term success. But understanding that habits are formed through repetition and consistency is the first step.
Tip: Start small. Focus on one habit at a time, and repeat it daily until it becomes second nature. If you try to take on too many changes at once, you may feel overwhelmed and give up too soon.
1. Know Your Values
Building habits that increase confidence starts with knowing what truly matters to you. Your values act as your inner compass, guiding you toward meaningful actions that align with your dreams. When your habits reflect your values and purpose, they naturally boost confidence and make sticking to them easier.
Knowing your values has a complexity of benefits:
- They Help You Make Informed Decisions for Your Life – Values give you clarity, allowing you to make confident decisions that align with your beliefs and priorities.
- They Help You Connect with People Who Align with Your Values – Knowing your values helps you attract and build relationships with people who share or respect your core beliefs.
- They Guide You Toward Achieving Your Goals – Values keep your actions aligned with your goals, ensuring your efforts are purposeful and effective.
- Improved Self-Awareness –Knowing your values helps you understand who you are, what you stand for, and what drives your decisions. This self-awareness creates clarity and direction in life.
- Better Boundaries – When you’re clear on your values, it’s easier to set and maintain boundaries that protect your time, energy, and well-being.
- Stronger Decision Making – Values act as a filter for decision-making, helping you quickly determine what aligns with your goals and what doesn’t. This reduces decision fatigue and prevents second-guessing.
- Increased Resilience – When faced with challenges, your values provide a sense of purpose and motivation to keep going, even during tough times.
- Authenticity in Relationships – Living by your values allows you to form deeper, more authentic connections with others who share or respect them.
- Reduced Stress and Conflict – Values provide clarity, which reduces internal conflict and helps you navigate external disagreements with confidence and grace.
- Alignment with Long-Term Goals – Knowing your values ensures your daily habits and actions are in sync with your long-term vision, making it easier to stay motivated and focused.
- Empowered Problem-Solving – When you’re clear on your values, you can approach problems with a solution-focused mindset that aligns with what matters most to you.
Action Step Tip 1:
Take a moment to reflect on your core values.
- Using our core value guide. Write 8 of your core values down. Are they family, health, creativity, growth, or something else?
- Then ask yourself if your current habits reflect these values.
2. Have a Dream for Yourself
Confidence thrives when you have a vision for your life a dream that excites and motivates you. This dream doesn’t have to be grand or perfectly defined. It just needs to inspire you to take action. When you know what you’re working toward, your habits become stepping stones to achieving that dream.
Having at least one dream that you’re striving for is the key to building habits. When you have a clear dream or goal, it acts as a powerful motivator, making it easier to stay consistent with your habits. The more you can visualize and connect with your dream, the more naturally motivated you’ll feel to take action.
Here are some examples of dreams that can fuel your habit-building journey:
- Running a Marathon – The dream of completing a marathon can inspire a fitness routine, healthy eating habits, and a mindset focused on endurance.
- Building a Successful Career – Striving for a fulfilling career can motivate you to develop skills, network, and adopt habits that improve productivity and focus.
- Creating a Balanced Lifestyle – If your dream is to live a more balanced life, habits like time management, self-care, and prioritizing health can help you achieve that vision.
- Starting a Business – The dream of entrepreneurship can inspire habits of organization, learning, and persistence, all necessary for running a successful business.
- Becoming Financially Independent – Financial freedom can drive habits like budgeting, saving, and investing, creating a solid foundation for long-term wealth.
- Writing a Book – Aspiring authors build habits around writing regularly, outlining their ideas, and setting goals to complete their manuscripts.
- Improving Physical Health –Whether it’s losing weight, building strength, or improving flexibility, the dream of better health can motivate daily exercise and nutrition habits.
- Cultivating Personal Growth – The dream of becoming the best version of yourself can lead to habits of continuous learning, journaling, and setting personal development goals.
Having a dream, no matter how big or small, gives your habits a sense of purpose. The more specific you are about your dream, the clearer your path to building habits that get you closer to it.
Action Step Tip 2:
Brainstorm the kind of life you want to create.
- Where do you see yourself in 1, 5, or 10 years?
- Pick one dream that you feel incredibly connected to. (Use this dream as motivation)
- What is 1 habit you could build that will get you closer to your dream?
3. Align Habits with Your Values and Dreams
When your habits reflect your values and move you closer to your dream, they feel meaningful and rewarding. When the actions you take daily are in line with what truly matters to you, every step feels purposeful. This creates a deeper connection between your habits and your broader vision, making the process of growth and progress feel more fulfilling. As you consistently make choices that honor your values, each action becomes an intentional step toward something meaningful.
This alignment creates a sense of integrity, which builds self-trust and confidence.
Living in alignment with your values creates integrity in yourself because your words and actions are congruent. This sense of integrity boosts your confidence because it strengthens your belief in yourself and your ability to follow through on your commitments. As you consistently show up for your values and dreams, you build self-trust—the foundation of lasting confidence. The more you trust yourself, the easier it becomes to take bold actions toward your goals. Over time, this leads to a deeper sense of self-worth and the confidence to face new challenges.
Action Step Tip 3:
Look at your daily routines and identify any habits that don’t serve your values or goals. Replace them with small actions that align with what matters most to you.
4. Overcome Obstacles with a Growth Mindset
Challenges, problems, and obstacles are inevitable when you focus on building new habits, but they don’t have to derail your progress. Viewing obstacles as opportunities to learn and adapt builds resilience and strengthens your confidence.
Action Step Tip 4:
When a challenge arises, pause and ask yourself the following 2 questions:
- How can I navigate this?
- What’s one thing I can do to move forward?
Adopting a growth mindset helps you stay solution-focused and optimistic. You can take small steps. Your solution does not need to solve the whole problem. It can just solve one small part of it.
If you’re with the term “You can’t eat an elephant in one bite.” Keep this in mind through this process. This is so crucial when solving problems and coming up with solutions.
5. Start Small and Build Gradually
Trying to overhaul your life overnight can be overwhelming and lead to burnout. Confidence is built by succeeding in small, manageable steps. Focus on mastering one habit before adding another. You may have noticed that in this blog under each section, each action step focuses on a simple goal. Taking on too much at once is a recipe for disaster.
If you’re completing the action steps in this blog, take your time with it. You’re better off coming back and finishing 1 task a week and completing it. Don’t try to get this all done in one day. Not only will you build the habit of working towards something, but you’ll also show your mind that you can stay with it. That is so valuable when it comes to building strong habits that are aligned with what matters to you.
Action Step Tip 5:
Choose one small habit to start, like drinking a glass of water in the morning or journaling for 2 minutes each night. Once this habit becomes second nature, add another. Celebrate each small success to reinforce your progress and build momentum (we are going to talk more about this shortly)
Small habits ideas:
- Drink a glass of water in the morning.
- Journal for 2 minutes each night.
- Stretch for 5 minutes every morning.
- Take a 10-minute walk after lunch.
- Read for 10 minutes before bed.
- Make your bed every morning.
- Practice deep breathing for 2 minutes.
- Write down one thing you’re grateful for each day.
- Limit social media to 10 minutes a day.
- Plan your day the night before.

6. Celebrate Small Wins
Confidence grows when you acknowledge and celebrate your progress. Every small win is a reminder that you can create change and move closer to your dream.
The importance of celebrating small wins is to show your brain it was all worth it. Habits that we have not formed yet can be a rather large challenge, they may not always come easily to us, and it can be painful to get started. What the celebration does is signal you braid to see the task differently. “See that was so worth it, don’t you feel good now?” On top of that celebrating the small wins also builds your confidence. You’re wiring your mind to see you as a success.
I will say that celebration in anticipation of something happening is also highly recommended. This means if you want to make that sale, or you want that promotion. Celebrating it before it happens helps you embody that achievement before it’s actualized. This is highly effective as well.
Action Step Tip 6:
Imagine the task you’ve just completed and physically embody the success by jumping up and down. Celebrate by jumping up and down! You will find you’re mood changes and you’ll get a wave of feel-good energy.
Similarly, when celebrating something that hasn’t happened. You do the same thing, only this time you imagine your desired result.
7. Practice Self-Compassion
Building confidence isn’t about being perfect—it’s about showing up, learning, and growing. When you approach setbacks with kindness and resilience, you reinforce the belief that you’re capable of overcoming challenges.
What is Self-Compassion?
Self-compassion is treating yourself with the same kindness, care, and understanding that you would offer a close friend during tough times. Instead of criticizing or judging yourself for mistakes, you approach them with empathy, recognizing that everyone faces challenges and has setbacks. It’s about acknowledging your imperfections without letting them define your worth and using difficult moments as opportunities for growth and self-improvement. It’s been proven that most of us are generally harder and meaner to ourselves than others. So being kind to our minds is important.
Action Step Tip 7:
For the next week when you wake up say the following to yourself in the mirror.
“I am learning and growing every day. It’s okay to make mistakes; they help me become stronger. I am worthy of kindness, especially from myself.”
It’s important to, remind yourself that it’s okay. Reflect on what you’ve learned and use it to keep going. Progress, not perfection, is the goal.
8. Consistency Builds Trust in Yourself
Every time you show up for yourself, you strengthen your self-trust. Consistency, even in the smallest actions, lays a foundation of confidence that grows over time. Along with consistency, commitment plays a crucial role. Be mindful of what you commit to if you’re not truly ready to follow through, it’s better not to speak it at all. Your mind is always listening, and the commitments you make, whether spoken or unspoken, shape your beliefs and actions.
Action Step Tip 8:
Choose a small, manageable action that aligns with your dream and commit to it daily. For example, if your dream is to write a book, commit to writing for just 10 minutes each day. Consistency in these small actions will build momentum and help you stay on track toward your goal.
Only commit to something you know you can accomplish. You’re better off committing to just 1 minute of writing each day and sitting down for 10 minutes than overcommitting and missing the goal. Small wins are more powerful than big intentions. Consider if daily is too much at first—if you’re new to building habits, starting with once a week might be where you need to begin. Gradually increase the frequency as the habit becomes second nature. Consistency in manageable actions is the key to building long-term success.
