BALANCE – Life is rather unbalanced when one doesn’t focus on balancing it out. When we ask for balance we ask for ease, pain-free experiences that feel in flow with life. It’s about having an easy and breezy experience from day to day. Feeling like you are in control and things have finally leveled out in your life.

The truth is living a balanced life isn’t exactly what we think it is. This article highlights 7 key parts of feeling balance.

1. Life Is Like A Body Of Water, Storms, Waves, & Peaceful Days:

Will the ocean ever be still? The answer is no, it will never be still in its entirety. There will be storms. You will have to learn to ride the waves that come at you in life. Learning to ride those waves is essential. From time to time there will be still mornings in certain parts of your life. Looking at how life is for us, it’s fair to say a lot of how life happens, resembles what a body of water experiences daily.

To live a more balanced life, first, you have to get clear on how life is.


2. Balance In The Speed Boat Concept:

If you’ve ever been a speed boat, you’ve probably noticed that when it’s at a stop. You tend to feel the waves a lot more when the boat is at a standstill than when the boat is full speed ahead.

When The Boat Of Your Life Is At A Stand Still:

Think about the times in your life that you have way too much time on your hands and you start to overthink everything. The moment you are at a standstill in your life, you start to feel more of those waves than when you’re moving forward.

When The Boat Of Your Life Starts Moving Forward:

When the boat starts speeding ahead, not only does it balance it’s self out but it also starts to create its waves behind it. This also applies to your life. When you start taking action and moving forward in your life, not only will you feel more balance but you’ll begin to create your waves in your life (the good kind of waves – if you’re doing something positive for your life, not the bad)

3. Balance in the Teeter Totter Concept – To Balance a teeter-totter you need weight on both sides.

In life, that means you need to be clear on what you’re going to balance.

People ask for a balanced life, and I’ll usually ask… “What are you balancing?” Then they usually say they want to feel relaxed and at ease. Feeling at ease and being relaxed, isn’t balancing anything. So what do you want to balance out so you can experience a balanced life? To balance a teeter-totter you need to have two things of similar weight on either side.  In other words, being in alignment with 2 or more things. Connection, family, leadership, adventure work, or friends.. are all things you can focus on to create a balanced life.

4. Balance Is The Ability To Deal With What Comes At You With Grace:

Instead of holding up resistance, creating gossip and drama. How can you deal with what’s happening in your life presented gracefully? This is pretty much like a surfer riding the waves instead of drowning under it. You can get up and grab your surfboard and say okay, let’s see what these waves got in it. Maybe it’s an adventure or its possibility of even having fun. Just because life hands you unfortunate situations doesn’t mean it’s your job to make them painful. 

Approaching life with grace means having the ability to face what’s happening and deal with the challenge in a peaceful way. So you can pass through those waves in your life.

It is NOT, reacting negatively and dramatically, being loud. That’s not graceful. 

5. You Cannot Always Live A Balanced Life, We Have Seasons of Balance:

Asking to fix what cannot be fixed, is asking for hardship. Just like it is to expect that life will always show up and be a certain way for you.

The only thing you truly have control over is yourself. Everything else isn’t something you can control. The weather, other people, animals and things like what time the grocery store stays open till. That’s all our of your control.

With that being said, life will have seasons of balance, there will be times where your ideal result will not fall into place and as powerful as you are at managing your state, there are still things that will not slide into where you’d like them to at certain times of your life.

Resistance is the biggest producer of pain. Where there is resistance there is a pain. Asking for ongoing balance in your life is also setting yourself up to have an unrealistic expectation. If you can embrace the good seasons of balance and accept the seasons that simply displace to trace of balance, you’ll find more peace.


6. There Is No Balance In The Presence Of Burning Desire:

To be ultimately successful at one thing, a certain type of obsession is required. The unlimited focus and commitment to succeed at the goal in front of you is required. At some point, you may also have to make some sacrifices as well where you focus exclusively on something till you win. This is what it takes to succeed at certain dreams and goals in your life. It just is, what it is. 

Expecting that you can be wildly successful and acknowledging a dream and also have a blissful balance is an illusion. It’s not real. It’s pretty much impossible. So keep in mind that sometimes you won’t have that perfect work-life balance, your business may take up more of your time in a certain season of your life. This is okay, as long as you don’t resist it and wish for balance at a time that, balance is just unrealistic to ask for.


7. Build A Balanced Life By Taking Aligned Action:

The more aligned action you take.. the more aligned you’ll feel. This pretty much brings together everything I’ve mentioned in this article.


Some of the keys takeaways for a balanced life:
  • Know what you’re balancing out.
  • Take action towards the things in life that are most important to you.
  • Accept that balance may not always be present in your whole lifestyle.
  • Move steadily towards your goals.
